very good article. Of course they know him, so that doesn't hurt.

there's a little more coming from the official site lately, it's not great but it's a lot better than the brett borden days. Maybe the increased visibility from the staff will mean some assistant time with the press, something we haven't had since Henning ragged Shelton.

    I have a few questions:
    1. Assuming Marshall is gone and considering the Jim Johnson D, what kind of player do we need at CB? Any chance we move Pugh?
    2. Rivera said he would control the Defense BEFORE hiring McDermitt. Is that still the plan?
    3. What does it mean for players like Norwood? Connor? Brown?

Under the JJ philosphy, CB is a premium position, one that the Eagles always focused on. If Rivera/Mcdermott don't throw in too many of their own wrinkles, you're going to see a lot of safety/cb blitzes, so the secondary players have to be able to cover 1 on 1.

Norwood has to be ready, but he fits. SLB often fits to the LOS or a couple yd off, main responsibilities are chuck TE and crash outside. Connor has enough athleticism to be there and probably has the inside shot at it, but he's not the blitzer.

We need Pugh on the field. I'd welcome a switch, and he's smart. But I have no idea, all I have are reports, haven't seen him play it. Will he be enough? Probably not. A lot to ride on one guy.

I'd prefer Rivera to concentrate on the team, not the D. But I assume he'll run the D. Hopefully McD earns the D outright.
We don't have an assistant HC either, and our coaches are young, so hopefully nothing gets out of line or details missed.

Being that McDermott would've had other opportunities had he not accepted here, I tend to think that the defense is his. Rivera worked with him for a while in Philly, and I'd have to expect he respects Sean's opinion.

Is there anything other than Rivera being a "defensive guy" that I'm missing as to why fans here seem to think he's going to be extra hands on with the d?

yeah, but that was before Mcdermott was hired. Hiring him could possibly have changed what he envisions his involvement being. Could've changed nothing just as easily I suppose.
