Peppers is a good player. I was ready to see him go though. I do not see putting that much of your cap into one guy unless that one guy is an elite QB. The only thing that sort of chaps me about him is how the media keeps saying he has been so good in Chicago and how they are using him better. His stats do not bear that out. He had one of his lower sack totals this past year.

Was there any proof offers weren't made? I thought numerous were rumored.

I could see the last one being a he said/she said but two years ago I'm sure was a legit offer.

I actually agree with most of what you said, but are you saying that Peppers would have been worth one of the highest salaries for a defensive player?

Just curious, if he's so consistent, what was the excuse for 2007 ?
    2004- sacks 11
    2005- sacks 10.5
    2006- sacks 13
2007- sacks 2.5 (lowest tackles, as well)
    2008- sacks 14.5
It seems pretty obvious he took the year off . He's a good player, but no where near a defensive MVP that some make him out to be.

I'd say that proves the point that he was remarkably consistent and that 2007 was simply an outlier.

granted I'm neither Peppers nor Hurney, but the team had made it clear they'd been willing to negotiate since 07, and assumedly made offers in 07, 08. I've seen leaked numbers about 09, two of them.

I mean, fault Hurney for not getting something for him (actually you can fault Peppers as much, since he's the one that murdered his trade value and buried it twenty feet deep), fault Richardson for calling him out, fault the team for plenty of things, but faulting them for being willing to negotiate for four years and not him for being supposedly willing for one month?

Peppers' agent denied that any formal contract proposal was ever sent by the Panthers, and Hurney has carefully worded his comments to indicate that the team merely discussed making Julius the highest paid defender. As far as I know, Hurney has never said that the team made a formal contract offer and submitted it to Carey. As I said before, anyone can talk about money, but until you actually put an offer down on paper then it doesn't mean much.

Yes, that's precisely what I'm saying. He's an elite talent who impacts the opposing team's gameplan. That's a rare thing.

This comment is too stupid to merit a rebuttal. If you intend to post something to me or referencing me, then please seek out some sort of treatment whereby scientists can inject functioning brain cells into that waste of space you call a head.
