Can anyone really blame Peppers for leaving? He saw the train wreck that was happening here and got out. Good for him.

He's part of the reason there's a train wreck here too. Part.

Jake's last deal was brought on by trying to keep him. Trading back into the 1st to take a DE as insurance, direct result of that too.

He/his agent undermined us trading him with that four team shit. Helpful, that was.

I wish I knew the dynamics of what went on between JR/Hurney/Fox in his case. Fox pushing hard to keep him might explain some of the shit that's gone on the last two/three years. If it were JR doing the pushing, ditto.

    Anyhow, I'm glad he's gone/all that's over and we're moving on.

As far as now, I just did not want to see them in the SB, and have to hear two more weeks of Pep adulation. Not to mention listening to what would come if he actually showed up in the SB.

I caught the end of a segment on NFL network. Sapp seemed to be calling out Pep for being contained by one guy. I could be wrong. Did anyone else see it?

What? You know I love you, strat, but that is some Grade A stupid shit. The Delhomme deal had everything to do with Fox, Hurney, and Richardson, but nothing to do with Peppers. He's also not to blame for Hurney being an idiot and trading a future 1st for the opportunity to select Everette Brown. How can you complain about how long the uncertainty dragged on, then pretend like it was enough of a surprise that Hurney had to get a replacement right away instead of being a real GM and planning ahead?

I get that a lot of you are bitter and irrational, because let's face it, TBR and Panthers fans in general have never been the most intelligent or objective group of people, but Peppers is the best defensive end in the league. Freeney, Allen, and Abraham are all better pass rushers, but much worse against the run. Well, looking at the stats you could make a case that Mario Williams is better than Peppers, but that's pretty much it. Downing a guy who is elite at his position because he didn't live up to your expectations is idiotic. Blame yourself for having them.

Collin, short version: either I did not properly express my thoughts or you misinterpreted them.

I was not trying to blame Pep personally for Jake, but cap issues stemming from the organization keeping Peppers on the team were directly responsible for re-working Jake's deal. You disagree?

On the Brown thing, same situation, not personal against Pep. Another byproduct of the clusterfuck that was the organization's handling of the situation. Not personal against Brown either, but I hated trading up for him (though that was also impacted by our trading up the year before).

I do blame Pep for coming out with his small list of teams public comments, hurting our leverage in a 'trade him' scenario. That, pissed me off.

As far as him being elite, sure he's elite, but I'd rather not have paid him the premium he demanded. I'd feel the same way about.... Beason for example, if the situation was similar (ie he had a stinker season like Pep's 2007 and wanted the moon).

Would you rather have Pepper's athleticism, or a normal IQ or better. Apparently, they are not a package deal. :smart:
