And yeah, I just want more than a solid D. I know we bowed down and sucked the cock of Meeks because he was solid n all, but I want more than solid. I think it's time we got more than solid.

 

Meeks D was more then solid last season imo... you consider Davis going down, the time of possession, and the youth alone... we will have a kick ass D next year

All we need is an offense to have the ball 36 min per game

Easy tiger. You should actually feel great about the defensive staff as a whole, while it's the offense you should be worried about. I understand why they picked Chud, but I wish like hell the Panthers had gone the route of experience rather than potential. One of Clausen's main problems last season (along with shitting his pants and having a terrible O-line) was predictable play-calling that didn't help a young QB. Look at the Jets-Patriots game to see what I'm talking about. I'm not the biggest fan of Schottenheimer, but while everyone in the media was slurping Sanchez, the credit should have gone to that gameplan. Most of the passes were short drop, quick releases to the primary read. That lessens the mental burden on inexperienced, overwhelmed young quarterbacks. Granted, you don't do that every week, but I'm just saying that the OC has a much bigger impact on the success of an inexperienced QB than pretty much any other coach-player relationship that I can think of in any sport.

 

so what are your thoughts on Clausen? he had a ton working against him including Smitty being as ass to him. if they stick with jimmy, i think smitty's going to have to leave. you think they will try to stick with jimmy or bring in a vet?

 

that's the biggest concern i have. he was visibly shaken after some of the hits. i think he's got heart but wonder if he's big enough to take hits. i suppose his body will mature a bit more. would strength training help much ... can a QB do much that without screwing up his ability to throw? probably so (Tebow comes to mind), just not sure. maybe bubblewrap would help.

 

I like Chud, he's got promise and being Norv's right hand for two years after Cleveland w was ideal development time. They wanted young and uncontroversial, so they got their hire. He has no time with QBs, which we would want, but need a strong coach there anyway.

 

You could be right. I've just never been a fan at all, of McDermott. As for the offense, I am worried. And I agree that the calls are essential in helping a quarterback, which is what I harped on a lot last year, but right now, I'm just holding my breath. Doesn't seem to be a lot out there.

I like Chud for the most part, what I know about him....I just hope we can get a strong running attack going again, but this time that can react off the pass as well. And for the record, I'm not giving up on Clausen totally. I just don't know about any of it anymore.

I know everyone is happy and all fresh faced and shit, but ultimately, we play in a nasty division, and no coach is going to come in and be God and pull us to the Promised Land like that. I don't see an elite staff, really. A fairly solid one...

That's where the O-line comes in. Despite the laughable Pro Bowl nod, Gross has been league average or possibly below over the last two seasons, while the rest of the line struggled as well. I'm on the record saying that I don't want to break the bank for Kalil, who is a sound and tenacious player, but doesn't really fit our scheme that well (put him with Indy or NE and he's a perennial Pro Bowler). It just bugs me that the team has spent by far the most money on the offensive line, and yet that was one of the main reasons we sucked. Now we don't have enough draft picks to address it, so we just cross our fingers and hope things get better.
