Got a feeling we'll see a more attacking defense between Rivera and McDermott. If they take Fairley with the first pick I can imagine a very nice young defense that gets after it. Unless they can put some juice in the offense though we'll have a worn out D by year's end.

Don't worry too much yet, Rivera is running that D, not McDermott.

Mcdermott (otherwise known as Ginger) had some wonderful gameplans as DC and some real head scratchers. As an Eagles fan, I think it was time for him to go, but at the same time think its a decent hire. With him and Rivera growing as coaches under JJ, he's going to get to run that scheme but has someone to rein him in if he trys to replicate some of the dumber things he did in Philly (like put Trent cole covering a TE). Panthers d also has much less holes than the Eagles did.

    Thanks.

Can you give us some examples? Of both the good and the bad?

I heard his biggest struggle was halftime adjustments. I'm also wondering, because Reid had his hand in the defense entirely if that was part of it. Reid didn't trust him from the very beginnning. Reid was hands off with JJ. Reid also admitted players on exit interviews said he should he fire McDermott.

No matter... he's in the best situation he possibly be in to succeed now.

Totally agree on the last part. I have no concerns whether the HC or DBs coach will be behind him, fixing the one major issue he had on an otherwise solid D.
