Actually I said I hope he (Newton) shows something tomorrow, but that Fairly would be my choice at 1. If Newton does show big that makes our pick possibly more attractive as trade bait. I also would not have a problem if they do draft him, I see them bringing in a vet regardless and having an open competition in camp. I have no faith left in Clausen to become anything but the next D Carr (minus the MJ gloves). As Ive seen mentioned in other posts, there should be flashes of brilliance, (or even averageness) they are not evident with JC. By all means keep him on the team and let him develop, but not in games.

Magnus speaketh the truth. There are some differing opinions here, but they are supported with facts.

I hope we draft Green. In 2-3 years, if he takes that long to develop, Smith will be 35 years old. His contract expires before that. He might demand a trade before that. We draft a WR then? Gettis and Lafell are not wise bets to become #1 wrs. So, drafting Green will be smart.

Skid, I dont think Id be upset with any of the three at #1 (Green, Fairly, Newton). But I would rather see them try to trade down in any case, of course to do that, we need a partner.

BTW, assuming the best out of each of the three who would you prefer having, the next S McNair, L Fitzgerald, or N Suh?

Newton scares me. Things about his character and work ethic are usually the traits attributed to busts. We are in a tough situation all the way around because we did not draft WRs QBs and DTs before we needed them. Your point about taking time to mature is absolutely right. We need to start drafting now for 2013 and not 2011. We need to fill the gap with veterans.

I see your point about DT. I saw Fairley play and was excited about the possibility.

I suppose I read JRs conversation with Tommy Tomlinson in the Observer and figured we would go after an offensive player. Looking at the draft, it would have to be Green or trade down.

Strangely, I am now leaning toward Peterson. Big shutdown corner, also a spectacular return man.
Hopefully our new coach will bring an aggressive D with him. A great secondary makes the front 4 more effective.

I still wake up screaming from our DB's playing 10 yards off Fitzgerald over and over again.

Suh. He is awesome and the only DT I have seen in a while worth the first overall pick. I think Fairley is a top 10 player. I see Peterson and Green as top 5.

If I thought Cam would be McNair, I would take him. But I watched him reading Defenses at Alcorn St. He was awesome. Cam can become a drop back passer, he can throw most of the passes if not all of them. But the work ethic. McNair was a hard worker, according to what I have read. I have read that Cam relies on his natural abilities and doesnt work that hard at it. I dont know. He will do great at the combine, a freak. I would interview him about coverages and reads. I would look at his wonderlic. You make the investment with a Bradford or a Luck, but Cam leaves more of a Jamarcus Russell in my mind that McNair.

The QBs in this draft are all over rated. I would not take any of them in the first. I also think Clausen will come around, in a year or two. dont laugh.

I agree with those wary of Newton. Russell, Young, I wouldn't want to deal with something like that. And the dad, $ grubbing, character issues, those are red flags.

He is a pr headache. Imagine when he gets paid and things start going south. He will be worse than Ocho CInco, TO, and Brandon Marshall playing in a wishbone offense.
