We do not need to draft Newton or any other QB #1 overall. Just because you are the top QB on the draft board does not mean you are worth the #1 pick. If we can not trade down then take the best defensive lineman on the board and find a veteran QB to take over.

I really think we screwed up dropping Fox now. I was somewhat optimistic that we could draft Luck and hire a good offensive coach and be solid. Now it looks like we are going to have to try to win with a journeyman QB or even worse Clausen. Fox's system did not emphasize the QB.

And Fox's system didn't work, either, except when all the planets were aligned and Stephen Davis still had one last season worth of juice in his legs and some old lady in NO burned some chicken bones and the chicken bones made Jake, inexplicably, something other than an ultra-reliable interception machine for one season. :pinch:

We might Have a good QB but who the fuck knows with a vagina smelling O-Line. I'd start there.

I blame Richardson. The smart assed comment he made about Luck's coach couldn't have helped.

It worked when Jake played well. Granted that was sporadic but the fact that Fox's system could overcome Jake's failings enough to have as much success as we had is impressive. Not many coaches are going to take a team to a superbowl with Jake as the QB. Look at Holmgren struggling with him.

JR said he wasn't signing any players without a CBA. I took that to mean that he wasn't going to draft a rookie and pay him unless there was a CBA (salary cap inferred) That might have made Lucks mind up. No bonus this year why not get the degree?
