There is a place for that though. Lots of actors are that way. Even well regarded actors. How often do you watch Jack Nicholson and think more about the character than you do him? Clint Eastwood plays the same guy every time too but he is also fairly well regarded. Tom Cruise is always the same guy.

You forgot Bruce Willis and I notice you didn't name Jeff Bridges. John Wayne trying to be a detective in a suit was a hoot, pilgrim.

Jeff Bridges is a good actor and he does not over ride the character. Part of the reason though is that he is not as big a star as those guys who do over ride the character. BTW I saw Jeff Bridges in the movie Blown Away with Tommy Lee Jones a few years ago and he stunk.

Decent movie but story line was too similar to original movie for my taste. That being said it's amazing that the actress who played Mattie this time is 14 while the previous one had just had a baby and was 23 (I think) when she did the first one. The actress in the latest version Mattie was VERY good and should have a nice career so long as she stays off the Dana Plato route. Jeff Bridges > John Wayne as actor IMO

The point was that they could have mixed things up more. Mattie lost her arm here but I don't believe she did in first one. I saw the original and they could have mixed things up more than just expanded Matty's role. But keep on following me around

The coen bros promised to follow the book and not the original movie... so I guess the original movie followed the book pretty well too. I think this version expanded the characters better than the original movie... and I liked the ending- sort of.

Did Bridges ride that poor horse to death?
