Well, I mean, I don't think Matt Ryan is Tom Brady or Jim Miller......

I know, it just bugs me that the media is all over his jock like he's actually proved anything. He has a great running game, gets to throw to Roddy White & Tony Gonzalez, yet he's never finished in the top 10 for QB rating, passing yards, or passing touchdowns. I'd love to have him as the quarterback here, but the hype has vastly exceeded his production to this point. Who knows, maybe he'll go on to be one of the great ones, but I wish ESPN would wait for that to happen before crowning his ass. Somebody go get Denny Green.

    Edit:
Actually he was 9th this season in yardage & 6th in TDs, so my mistake there, but still...

Jimmy Clausen was Mel Kiper's top-rated player on the board in 2010, right?

    Jesus Fucking Christ.

Clausen isn't a lost cause. Keep in mind that Matt Moore looked just as bad, yet we all remember Moore looking great in '09 when surrounded by a better team. Jimmy can be a competent starting quarterback in the NFL, but he needs to grow a pair and stop freaking out every time the defense gets after him. I just don't think he's mentally tough, which is a huge weakness on a struggling team. Put him behind a solid offensive line with a legitimate OC and he'd be fine, though. Hell, it's not like many rookie QBs have been worth a shit their first season in the NFL.

    Edit:
But yeah, Kiper is completely fucking clueless. His "big board" is always a hoot until you get into March & April when his contacts around the league finally have him going with their player evaluations instead of his own.

I don't ever recall thinking Moore looked great, past momentarily after a great throw.

But he was solid enough that yes, we could have played decent ball with him at QB if the OL and running game did the job.

OL was the biggest surprise for me this year and the biggest reason for the collapse, in my opinion.

Fair enough, "great" is overstating it, but he did have a 98.5 rating that season. I was actually optimistic about the offense coming into this season, as I was more worried about the other side of the ball.

Sorry yeah that was a nitpick, we basically agree. Main point being I thought he was enough, given what I thought was around him.

Yeah, me too. I thought Moore would beat out Clausen, we could trade one of em for a high pick, and that our O would roll while our D struggled, but our run game would keep us in the thick of things.

BOY, was that a bunch of shit....
