I'm quessing you don't remember '80-'83 too well. Elway was great for years, as was Marino - not big splashes on the national stage then off to the NFL.

Not to say Luck can't be a better pro than either of those guys, but those guys were more known on a national level and more proven.

Mike & Mike, Schefter. This was around 7:30, so should be back on at 9:30.

Claimed IF we were willing to deal the price would not be high, it would be exorbitant, starting at 3 #1s.

Also said that the GM who traded the rights to a franchise QB would be mocked among his peers. I think Hurney is a candidate to achieve mocking by his peers, if that isn't happening already.

Guess the other side is the GM that gives up 3 #1s for a bust would be the one ridiculed, and the guy that fleeced him, a stud. A guy that turned down such a haul for a bust, not too good an outcome for him either.

starting at 3 #1's sounds like a decent launching point.
hurney: well, we'll need 3 #1's, and that's just the ante.

i could live w/ this tactic.

Add Oakland to the equation. John Harbaugh supposedly referred to the Michigan job and his brother: He loves Michigan, but I doubt he goes there. That says a lot about Stanford.

Stanford still in the equation? Doubt it, but Oakland is probably all in. He seems like a RAiDERs coach.

I see. I think it is challenging to compare the stages because we have so many more venues that expose schools to us than we had in 1983. I mean, ESPN was just getting started then.

Actually, scouts & GMs haven't said anything. They wouldn't tip their hands anyway, but they're not even allowed to comment on Luck until he formally declares since he's an underclassman. As for the others, go back and look at what people were saying before this season. Mel Kiper had Jake Locker as his #1 pick, while Todd McShay was down on Locker but had Ryan Mallett as his #1 quarterback prospect for this draft. McShay did praise Luck, but if Andrew was this once in a generation prospect then how is it that no one had him rated as the top guy coming into this season? Oh wait, one draft "expert" did publicly say that they had Luck rated higher than Locker and Mallett. I'll give you three guesses on who that was, and the last two don't count.

You haven't heard a legitimate source, period. By the way, guess who said in print that Bradford was the best QB prospect since Manning, and that Tebow would be a legitimate starting QB in the NFL? (too early to make definitive conclusions, I know, but it looks good as of now)

And if you had a better than terrible record when it came to projecting college QBs, that might interest me. You've always been seduced by big arms while neglecting the more important aspects of quarterback evaluation. Look, I'm not saying that Luck is a bum. Again, I'm the only draft "expert" I know of who had him as the top guy coming into this season, and I just said that he's the best prospect in this draft (the idea of drafting Bowers or Fairley #1 over makes me nauseous). But Luck does not have Bradford's accuracy. You saw it on the long touchdown off of play-action where Fleener had to slow down almost to a stop in order to catch the ball. You should also have noticed that Luck made a variety of bad decisions with the football that he's fortunate did not result in VT interceptions. He also stared down receivers more than a bit. Andrew would be a significant upgrade over Clausen, and he has almost no bust potential, so if Carolina does select him that's fine by me, but the hype on him is just ridiculous. Bradford was significantly more accurate, and processed information from reading defenses much more quickly and consistently. Luck is more athletic and has a better arm, but precision and the mental side are much more important.

3 #1's would be hard to turn down... but it would suck having to wait for them... plus after the team we trade with drafts Luck, those picks will be towards the end of the round, not high like we will still be picking if we keep Clausen

    so no deal
