General Observations

JR wanted to scold the press.

Marty said hiring an assistant coach worked well in the past, and people rely on their histories, but he is keeping an open mind--this after JR said that most of the coaches in the playoffs were assistants when hired. Then he added , "At least that is true in Pittsburgh's case" WHAT?

Marty looked shaken and afraid. It was obvious that JR is on a rampage.

JR basically said he has no interest in contacting Harbaugh, but he would be "cordial" if they met. Nice way to send a statement to Luck.

He then said that it would not make sense to trade down at this particular time. To me, that means we are drafting Luck, although the statement is true if he stays in? Was that a statement toward Marty about trading first round picks?

Morgan Faherty at FOX news must have lied on him. She blamed her producer, which was weak. She is the journalist, even if she is hot. He abused her. Apparently, it is not a good week to be affiliated with anything named FOX.

 

That was major dose of reality. I actually like JR a lot more after that. The man knows what he wants and takes his time. I thought he was sharp as hell. He controlled the whole room and answered questions in a no nonsense manner.


We're getting an assistant coach for our new head coach.

We're getting Luck. (as long as he comes out)

There's going to be a lockout.

Has no problem spending money.

Wants to win very, very badly.

Good lord, it was like a group of raw recruits talking to General Patton.

 

JR is very schooled about putting people on the defensive. Asking them their names and where they work prevents anonymity and makes the person accountable by establishing their credibility. Answering questions with questions, and waiting for answers. Not allowing Gantt to speak before the female reporter established who is in charge.

They were scared to ask the big questions. I would have asked, "You said you weren't trading down this year due to the present situation." How does drafting first address our situation more than picking 4th overall, for example, and adding picks?"

I am glad he said it, because I took it to mean Luck.

FAN01, yes, and also he said something to the effect that he wished some of his players wanted to win as badly as he did.

 

I thought he said that as an ex player, he probably wanted to win more than some other owners.

 

Oh maybe so. Perhaps I misunderstood him.

yeah, i have to think he let luck know that he wouldn't be deciding our coach, and let harbaugh know that he doesn't think he has the experience to be a hc in the nfl yet - not w/out being an assistant/coordinator first. kinda a superiority statement.
