I have saw a couple of commercials for the remake that is coming out. It seems like a bad idea to try to remake this movie. It is probably John Wayne' most iconic role and anyone who tries it is going to fall short. The commercial is funny because they repeat some of the more famous lines from the original like "fill your hand you son of a bitch", "I mean to kill you Ned in one minute", etc.

Maybe it will be good enough to stand on its own but of all the movies to remake this is one of the last ones I would have done.

I feel kinda like you. But I heard that Curt Russell does an outstanding job. Also it'd be unfair and perhaps misleading to compare it to John Wayne's movie, kinda like comparing it to a movie made from a book. e.g. It could be a very good movie and not like the book. Because it's not like the book it's a bad movie?

I believe you're right. Sorry. Hope that doesn't negate my whole post/opinion.

It might be a good movie. Josh Brolin is a good actor and he is in it. I like westerns so it is good they made another one but I am not sure I will be able to watch it for what it is without constantly comparing it to the original.

They really should have worked out cameos for Robert Duvall, Kim Darby and Glen Campbell.....

It'll probably a little easier for me to watch than you because I'm not a huge John Wayne fan. Don't get me wrong I respect his work, enjoy his movies, and TRUE GRIT, in particular, is a classic.

Cameo roles would be nice, maybe characters other than the original characters they played. Kim Darby is definitely too old to do her original character, imo.

They are all too old for their original characters. Giving them new small roles would be a neat tip of the hat to the original movie. Too bad it did not happen.

Pretty sure the Coen Brothers can pull it off.

I didn't even know it was a remake. This is about all I know about John Wayne...
