He recovered from the knee fairly well, but he had shoulder problems and an elbow injury that was rumored to be similar to Jake's. Those injuries and the deterioration of his fundamentals have left him a shell of his former self. People just say it was the knee because that's all they remember.

His two great receivers aren't great downfield threats, which they lost when Henry died, but I'm not sure Palmer has the power to work deep consistently (see elbow destruction above)

That's the one thing that would scare me about him.

I would much rather hope Luck comes out, we get the first pick and be done with it.

I have not followed him that closely but he is not the same QB he used to be.

If Luck stays in school then I think we try to acquire a veteran QB and use our pick on something else. I do not see another QB in the draft worthy of the #1 overall pick. I do not want to pick a QB just because we need one. I want to pick one because he has a chance to be very good.

The idea with Luck was supposed to be that he's special. I don't see them taking a QB just because fans are over Clausen, and I don't see Newton as a top 5 talent.

Is Newton special? Sure, if you need a runner. He's not Tebow, but both of them would bring that - the head down, scramble thing that you can't really do in the pros unless you're an elite type athlete. Neither he nor Tebow have the athleticism of the guys who make it that way.

It'd help challenge contain, and get some yards, but I dunno. I don't find him the same level of player.

A QB who has running as a big part of his game is always going to struggle in the NFL. Vick is probably the best running QB ever but his game is twice as good as it was in Atlanta because he stopped running so much and learned how to read defenses and make good throws. The days when Kordell Stewart could get by at QB just because he could run are gone. Defenses have caught up and defensive players are just too fast.

Being able to run in addition to having all the other tools to make a QB great is obviously a bonus but should not be a mainstay.

I just have that horrible feeling we're going to screw this up by beating AZ this weekend, and Cincy will lose-out, thus beating us in the tie-breaker (even though they beat us head to head earlier in the year).
