No doubt China is growning by leaps and bounds. To understand why we just have to look back in time. China is undergoing what the western world underwent during the industrial revolution. Big advantage for China though is that instead of having to invent and create new technologies to fuel that growth, China can just buy/use western technology to make stuff, etc. Eventually, IMHO, China will reach a plateau like the western world did and growth will slow and chug along like everyone else. How long that takes is a question though. China could grow a lot for several years to come.

isn't that kinda the point the article is making, that it's already at the tipping point?

Yeah, but I don't think they are there yet. There is a shit load of people still left in China that may move from the farms to the middle class and thus continue to raise GDP. Of course with that will eventually come wage pressures and everything else the western world deals with regarding a modern economy. I think China has more years left of rapid growth before slowing down.

we are winning. China builds it's high speed rail with the money it gets from our interest payments to them.

China is a house of cards... So much of their internal economy - not related to exports - is based on government funding and not on need. There cities full of emply buildings. The infrastructure is very poorly made. Buildings that are 10 years old like they are 40 years old. It is only a matter of time...

What you have to remember is China doesn't care about the individual workers, so they can essentially work them to death if need be. No need to worry about welfare of the population, just profits.
