    Poll finds more than half UNC fans want Davis to stay

    North Carolina fans back Butch Davis and want the the football coach to remain in that job despite the NCAA and campus investigations into agent benefits and alleged academic misconduct.

    A scientific telephone survey by Public Policy Polling of North Carolina voters describing themselves as fans of the Tar Heels found that:

    -Only 14 percent of Carolina fans want Davis to be fired with 57 percent preferring that he continue as the coach and 29 percent having no opinion. 41 percent of fans approve of Davis' overall job performance to only 20 percent who disapprove, numbers any politician would love to have.

    "These numbers would seem to suggest that UNC fans don't think the program's current issues are Davis' fault and that they appreciate the strides the team has made on the field since he became coach," PPP director Tom Jensen says. "And they would suggest that Chancellor Holden Thorp and Athletic Director Dick Baddour's strong continued support of Davis is meeting favor with their 'constituents.'"

    I gave him credit from coming on the NN.N board and posting but after awhile his arrogance just became to much. He doesn't really post anymore. He used to tell us that all we needed to do was win to get more coverage but when we did that the coverage still didn't come. I'm talking about beating top 10 teams and top 25 rankings. He was called out on his hypocracy and went away.

    Come to find out only about 2 percent of those fans actually attended Chapel Hill.

    Very nice. Plus no one is whining about no respect or saying that UNC didn't play a weak schedule because Stanford and St. Joe's played weak schedules too.

    Well, at least BigV and I agree the O's sports editor is a prick. He really showed his ass on the NN.N board.
