Good to have options. My early opinions:
    - Lanie Miller - a bit too folksy for me.
    - great hearing Darin Gantt
    - Rosinski is great
    - I actually didn't hate Stephen A Smith. He and the lady were pretty good.
    - Jim Rome - I never got him. He repeats his points way too much. Almost like he doesn't have enough material, so he just repeats the same thing over and over and over again, with long pauses. To each his own - just not my type
    - Great hearing Dan Patrick - good add for the station.
    - afternoon guys - pretty bland. Would love to hear them put up better programming against Packman. Pat O'Brien? Have no idea who the other Joes are.
    - Probably missed other personalities, but those come to mind.

Stephen A. Smith/The Bottom Line vs. MAC ATTACK: Stephen can get loud at times, but I can tolerate that. Bottome Line is really good; Sounds like you get more news from them without the noise/bells/whistles that you hear on the MAC ATTACK

Dan Patrick vs. Herd: Dan does his show from a 'man cave' studio in Milford, CT which is 2 towns over from where I grew up at as a kid (New Haven area). I like the interaction he has with his staff on the air who are in the studio with him. His TV show, which is on DIRECT TV now, is about to go on FSN nationwide in a few more weeks which is cool. The Herd is fine as well; Illl probably flip between both shows when I can

Jim Rome vs. Frank & Buck: I happy to hear Jim Rome back in the QC; I've always felt WFNZ had too much local shows on; I like hear whats going on nationally during the day vs. hearing the same Panthers this & that from 7a-6p. Since its football season, I can tolerate but outside of that I try to avoid them. Having Yarboro as a cohost now makes listening to the show a little more bearable though

Primetime vs. Sports Yapp: I wish Sportsyapp would go another hour. It has promise. Not sure if Primetime has to sweat them yet, but I think in time they will have some good competition during PM Drive Time.

Pretty hard to get news from MAC ATTACK when one of the hosts hasn't even seen last night's events live.

I'd love to see a changing of the sports guard here in Charlotte. Its time for something new and FNZ has done very little to keep its programming fresh.

Other thing, I find it hypocritical that various hosts on FNZ criticize Richardson for going cheap, not investing in talent, when you could say the very same for FNZ, outside of the money they pay Packman.

Preach Sleehrat preach it :D :D !!!!!!! Putting all their marbles behind Packman has left them little else to hire fresh new talent at FNZ . . . Again, I say WZGV will beat WFNZ in the ratings book within a year. Then CBS Bigwigs will flip WFNZ to a Spanish speaking station :) :) !!!!!!!

What ? You don't enjoy listening to a pudgy little Ravens fan and a senile old drunk with a sound effects machine ?

I listened to the afternoon show today for about an hour. It was fantastic, they had Rosinski on there discussing Peppers press call in detail. I heard more 'information' about the Panthers in that segment then I ever hear on FNZ. Granted I pretty much don't listen to FNZ anymore, but no one here can blame me.

Rome is an acquired taste and admittedly not for everyone. He's more 'sports entertainment' than hard nosed sports talk shows, and there are a lot of in-jokes and references made. Takes awhile to get up to speed, and even then, some people are grated by him. He gets huge guests though and they are usually more candid on his show than the average canned responses you hear at pressers and other shows. Also a lot of the great parts of the show come from the listeners/clones and their emails. If you aren't paying attention you won't get the jokes, it's not a show you just tune into to hear about tonight's matchup.

Love the fact that Charlotte is finally back in the jungle. It's sad that we've had a legend in entertainment radio (Howard Stern) that was held out of this market for most of his run (save a 5 year stretch in the mid-90's that was marred by the loss of his head writer for some of that stretch) and the most 'entertaining' sports radio guy has also been unable to find a foothold in Charlotte. Except for a 4 year run (tape delayed in the middle of the night) Rome has never even been on in Charlotte. To my knowledge this is the first time his show has been carried live.

Curious how these two radio icons are successful everywhere but Charlotte. I know Atlanta was equally hard for Stern to get a foothold in, not sure if Rome has had success there. Could be a culture thing I guess, sad for me personally being such a radio fan and not having good access to the trendsetters in radio and sports radio.

Instead we get Brotha Fred, Matt and Ramona and Chris Maclain.

I'm not really feeling that Pat O'Brien show they have on around 5 though. Second time I've heard that and I'm not really sure what's going on there.

It was funny listening to O'Brien talk about how much he likes Five Hour Energy today. What a shock that Pat O'Brien appreciates products like Red Bull and Five Hour Energy!

I have a hard time getting Pat O'Brien as a sports guy. I still see him as the guy doing entertainment gigs.

    and voice mails....

Rome was on 790 The Zone in Atlanta in the late 90s. They decided to go with a local show in that time slot. Rome trashed the station on his last day and made it a 'Bash 790 Day'. It was unreal radio. Callers, faxes (yeah...he took faxes then), and emails all protesting. It got so bad that they had to cut away from Rome's show the last 30 minutes and go to some other national show (on Sporting News Radio i think).

This obviously caused some bad blood. I think they patched that up for a while and he was back on the station for a while. But it looks like they have a local shows in the noon to 3:00 time slot now.
