FOX SPORTS 730AM is on in the QC !!!!

WFNZ spent thousands of dollars on the transmitter site a few years ago. They replaced everything except the towers. They ran a full proof. It is making all the power it can by law.

There is no way they can increase power because of their frequency. They have to protect other 610s around the country. If they increase the power they will cause interference and that is not allowed.

I can't see any major teams that play at night moving to 730. They only have 195 Watts at night. I personally don't think they are cutting back to 195 at night.

If I were a betting man I would put money on 730 being sold by this time next year. They spent a bundle moving it from Shelby. The only way to make that money back is to sell it. Unfortunately the only folks with the where with all to buy it programs Spanish and Religious stations.

I am hearing rumors of some fairly big changes coming down the line. PPM is going to change the landscape. You may hear Woody on a different station next season. We almost know for sure NASCAR will be on a new station.

Back in the late 90s, WFNZ was making big promises that they would go up to 50k watts. They had the ingrediants in place to be a really good sportstalk station (up there with WEEI in Bahston, WFAN in NYC, KBNR in Bay Area, etc.). But with the questionable lineup changes over the years (bye, bye Czaban & Penner) and skimping on hiring new upcoming talents (sorry, Buckner & Garcia are good during football season, but that's it) has made WFNZ just OK (really, below OK). If you look at other markets, a sportstalk station with a good stick can make money. Why does the QC have to be exception; Dont we have enough Spanish stations already ? ? ?

 

They were not telling the truth. They knew they would never be able to increase to 50,000 Watts on 610.

It's really nice to hear Bill Rosinsky on the air locally again. The morning show here is a stark contrast to the buffoonery going on at FNZ. Keep up the good work.

Yeah, we know now . . . . I wish WFNZ or WZGV would kick off a local version of the WING BOWL WIP hosts every year . . . Looking at photos of the event, I think it would be a big hit down here (maybe do mini BBQ sammiches instead of wings) !!
