Why hasn't he been considered for a possible starting spot? He seems to be one of the only guys capable of catching the ball. He seems to find holes in the D and has 4.3 speed.

I won't say he's the teams savior by any means, but he looks like the best of all our rookies up til now. He may eventually be passed by Lafell, but I'm betting he already has more catches this preseason than Edwards and Lefell combined.

Give him a chance. He could end up being a first year Keary Colbert.

This is largely emblematic of John Fox, and his philosophy, but you rarely see his teams feature rookies—much less, late round rookies—at skill positions on offense. Colbert was lights out at times in 2004, particularly in camp and pre-season, so he simply won a job there. But there are other teams out there who, frankly, are more aggressive in their approach on this. If I could get in Fox’s head, I would imagine these are some of the thoughts that he hears when thinking about rookie wide outs in starting roles:

“Not sure about his ability to hold strong on run blocking on the edge”
“What if he runs the wrong route in the fourth quarter and it leads to a pick that loses the game”
“I am the Mayor of Charlotte, bitches”

But in all honesty, Lafell and Gettis both can play in the league. It, many times, boils down to environment, playbooks, and what a coordinator is expecting you to be in an offense. Personally, I believe Davidson’s offense is a bit trickier to learn than Henning’s was. But none of it changes the fact that Fox, “The Decider”, has always been about 6-9 weeks behind on making the right calls.

    · 2005: Davis/Foster
    · 2006: Williams/Foster
    · 2007: Williams/Foster

Then, oddly, he throws a rookie into the rotation at safety right out of the box (Godfrey). It’s working out, but that was odd for Fox.

I tend to favor Gettis over App State at this point, simply because he’s a true wide out with a tremendous frame, and the kid has wheels. Almost like a Drew Carter, who made big plays when he was finally unleashed late in 2005. In fact, although it turned south fast for Carter, I would argue that he was one of 3 or 4 key factors after Thanksgiving that year that helped propel us to the NFCCG. He made plays, (body) caught some deep balls, and took some attention away from Smith. Shit, if we just had the TE’s we have now, we might have made it to the Super Bowl.

At the end of the day, I don’t think Fox keeps Gettis on the active. I think he goes to PS, and hopefully sticks. I believe the rotation, assuming we have no more goddamned stupid injuries, looks like this:

    1. Agent 89
    2. Jarrett
    3. K-Moore
    4. Lafell
    5. App State

Charly’s broken thumb hurts, and I like him on ST, but he’s a replaceable part. Guy—nice story, nice hair. Just not good enough. Gettis—stash him away, if possible.

I also believe they plan to keep Sutton and Goodson on the active, and I am hopeful that they can just settle on Goodson at KR, and Munnerlyn at PR, and move the fuck on with life. Davidson has hinted at using Goodson in passing game in the past, and late last year, he showcased it at New York. I like this, and I want to see some more of it. He most certainly has the ability, and I even saw him doing well in pass protection last week, which is encouraging. Sutton = Goings. You ask him, he’ll do it. Keep him.

Back to the passing game, which is being touted as an epic failure to come. Hell, I think Bob Scheefer from Face The Nation even weighed in on it last Sunday, saying "God Fucking Dammit, that passing game is dog-dick!"

I hardly think our passing game, when it comes down to efficiency and giveaways, will be near the bottom of the league—so long as Smith stays viable. Now, if you want to look at things from the perspective of passing yards/TD’s, well then, no shit Sherlock. We will be low on that list. As will the other 4-5 teams that run the ball as violently and religiously as we do. If Moore (or whoever starts) throws 15 TD’s and 5 INT’s, and we have a pair of 1000 yard backs, we will make the playoffs, particularly with the schedule on hand.

Oh, and Ron Meeks: congratulations on the sheer girth and might of your cock thus far. Keep ramming that 9.25 inch dong where you fancy. Cam Cameron, Brian Schottenheimer and Mike Heimerdinger are all still suffering from the worst “pink sock” ever delivered to them. Let’s give Bruce Arians one for the road tomorrow.

i would think this has more to do with fox having played db, and his inherent and accute knowledge of the position. although, that doesn't explain branch, or that salley guy that always seemed injured.

I hope they keep him simply because I almost have the same name. D. Gettis, but not David. And i'm a slow white boy, though.
