Mangum should be plenty honored enough by cashing his damn checks.

I know you didn't just list Mangum in there with Rucker, Minter and Moose. The fuck.

I wouldn't have a big problem with Kasay. But I would prefer to see him inducted in the Ring of Honor rather than having his jersey number retired. Afterall, he is a kicker that participated in, at most, 6-8 plays a game.

Consider that some of the most historic franchises in NFL history have little or no retired jerseys:

Pittsburgh - 1 (and his name isnt Bradshaw, Harris, Swan, or Lambert)
    Dallas - 0
    Washington - 0
    Green Bay - 5
    Oakland - 0
    Miami - 3

There are twice as many Super Bowl trophies in that list than retired numbers.

we all might be arguing semantics here. let's face it, mills number is retired because of who he was and his untimely death. it has little to do with his performance on the field, for us at least.

so that said, if everyone else is only eligible for ring of honor, barring tragic loss of life, followed by the unofficial retirement of the number, then kasay should and will be there. mangum will not be there. hoover will not be there. i would hesitate to put ruck, minter or moose there as well. i think kasay even gets a statue. as well as the already mentioned accomplishments, the man snapped his kneecap in half and came back.

Like i said, I wouldn't have a big problem with retiring #4, but would prefer most, if not all players going forward be inducted in the Ring of Honor.

Sam is a unique situation and I believe his number would have been officially retired eventually. He helped shape this franchise as both a player and coach the first decade. But i think that is discussion for another time.

Agreed on the other names. I think Moose gets in the Ring of Honor eventually. The mention of Mangum to the list just goes to show that most fans have no idea what it takes to be considered for these types of honors.

I was talking about some type of honor that was less than a ring of honor when I mentioned Mangum. I am not sure what that honor should be but I do not see Mangum as ring of honor material either. I am not sure we have had a guy yet who is worthy of ring of honor treatment for his on the field performance. Maybe Smith if he finishes his career here and has several more good seasons.
