I'm jealous.

 

i finally gave up on getting some rain around 8pm last night. i watered the garden once again. then, i was awakened in the middle of the night to the sound of a torrential downpour. 7/10 of an inch of rain in my gauge this morning. i'll take it!

 

It's rained basically once in three weeks around my neck of the woods. Gave up on the grass but keeping the flowers/shrubs/garden watered. Did have a downpour for about 10 minutes two days ago but that was pretty much useless. Downpours after long periods of drought do nothing but run off the rock hard ground.

 

I disagree. I think any water we get is USEFUL...maybe not as useful as a nice steady rain, but still useful. And we should be thankful for whatever comes.

 

1.3" total rainfall yesterday, coming in two separate events. those plants that i kept alive during the last 5 weeks perked up overnight. i hope this current weather keeps up for a few more days.

 

Of course, it's a matter of quality, not quantity.

 

question; we keep getting blossom end rot on our tomatoes. I thought for a while that was because we watered at night and possibly too much? After a month of watering once or twice a week combined with rain we're still getting the rot - this website explains it, but what are some of yalls opinions?

We had the same problem. Get some Tums/Rolaids, smash them up and put in the soil around the plant. Water in and problem should go away. There may be something else you can buy but the Tums/Rolaids way is cheap and works.

 

thanks, we were debating on doing this, but wasn't sure if it worked. we will do this today
