That non goal kinda took the life out of the Brits. FIFA needs to join the 21st century. Similar thing happened to Mexico. They sputtered after that goal that was allowed despite the obvious offsides the refs missed.

Because time is kept on the field. Only the ref knows when he stops his watch or not.

True, but based on the officiating that I have seen in the tournament.......It's time to keep it for everyone to see.

I haven't seen any issues of time problems - fifa actually got this right a few years ago. part of the reason that no one can see the time is also to prevent more time wasting at the end of matches. i would actually like to see some yellow cards given out for egregious examples. I think that at least one Ghanian could have received a card for this.

there have been some pretty bad aspects of officiating though but i think overall, the games are much more fluid and better officiated than the last couple of world cups.

The fact that we can't see the time is my point. With the inept officials, how can you be sure they are keeping the extra time on the up and up ? It's going to happen, replay will be used to at least some degree in the next World Cup, they as much as said so today when the head honcho apologised for the abomination that we have seen so far.

why doesn't the ref just indicate the stop and start of the clock as he does it...maybe rub his belly when he stops the clock and scratch his balls on the restart?

This used to be an issue, but a few minutes before the end of the halves (and extra time too, I think) they hold up a sign that shows how many minutes have been added on.

And the plays that we are discussing are extremely hard to of gotten right in the speed and contact of the intial play, so to try to act like a ref who got that wrong might not be able to start and stop a stopwatch is a bit of a stretch.
