So what do you guys think is going to happen with the ACC?

So far Nebraska has officially joined the Big 10, and Colorado is in the Pac 10. Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma St are set to join the Pac 10. Apparently Texas A & M is deciding between the Pac 10 and the SEC.

This eventually will leave the PAC 16 and the BIG 16, with the SEC poised to join them as a super conference. How will the SEC get there though? Are they going to raid the Big East? Or will they be able to pry away the heart of the ACC? Or perhaps they can take the southern part of the ACC?

That will leave the ACC and the Big East joining to form whatever best conference they can. It's easy by sports standards to imagine the Big East/ACC to try and focus on basketball, leaving Duke, UNC, (Kansas?,) Syracuse, Georgetown as the powers. And football heavy schools like Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami, FSU and maybe Virginia Tech going to the SEC.

Another rumor has the SEC trying to secure it's future in football and basketball by trying to get Duke and UNC to join up with Kentucky. For the majority of us if that happened the ACC would cease to exist in current form. I think as Duke, UNC and NC State go, so go the ACC.

Also read a rumor that the Big 10 is going after Maryland.

One thing is for sure the next week should be crazy watching the dominoes fall. I hope the ACC survives.

edit: One thing I think personally, that Dean Smith and Roy Williams will be trying to grab Kansas to expand the ACC as well as save the school athletically. The schools who fall outside the power conferences are screwed, especially the ones who get 'demoted' so to speak.

    ACC Wish List:

UNC, N.C. State, Wake Forest, & Duke
    Clemson, & South Carolina
    Virginia Tech, & Virginia
    Maryland
    West Virginia
    Georgia, & Georgia Tech
    Miami, & Florida State
    Boston College

That's 15 teams: add one more for 16.
Keeps it a true Atlantic Coast Conference geographically, & rivalries are included.

If you keep Boston College, you'd have to pursue Connecticut or Syracuse for the regional concept.

I think the idea of the ACC being able to take an SEC team is ludicrous. It won't happen, the SEC TV contract guarantees each team in that league more money than the ACC deal that was just signed. The SEC is in the driver's seat, it will be up to the ACC to keep their teams or react if they start getting pilfered.

Also, Kansas is in real danger right now. I'm sure Dean Smith and Roy Williams are going to use their ACC clout to keep Kansas from being one of the teams left on the outside of the super conferences. Maybe they can help them get into the Big 10, which would make more sense geographically.

well since they are bastardizing all the old historical, competitive rivalries by dismantling conferences why don't they just go ahead and make different basketball vs. football super conferences?

The dooks, UNCs, Kansas' and Kentuckys of the world can be in the basketball super conf and the Texas, BAMA, Florida, USC and LSUs can be in the football conf. And a few of those schools like Texas, Florida can really rack up by being a member of both.

Thats where all this is heading

The SEC came out over the weekend saying they had no interest in any ACC schools at this point (is GT, Clemson, Miami and Half Ass U) That said I'd love to get Pitt and WVU in the fold. The conferences are killing the NCAA with these Super conferences IMO

Geographic s have nothing to do with anything here unfortunately. Why else would Washington travel to Texas.

Which is probably the end game in all of this.

Looks like the tide was stemmed for the time being. Big 12 survives by allowing Texas to have its own TV Network as well as drawing a piece of the Big '12' Network.

I wish the ACC would go back to

    UNC
    Duke
    Wake
    NC State
    Virginia
    Maryland
    GA Tech
    Clemson

that was the real ACC where teams played each other home and away every year in basketball.
