laminate is cheaper right? I do know it buckles when it gets wet. Such as if your dog pees on it and it doesn't get wiped up RIGHT away. That I'm not so crazy about.

the only reason to choose laminate is if you are poor.

seriously, would you put formica on a counter top in this day and age? why put it on your floor.

The house had laminate when we bought it. I prefer wood, but damned if the laminate isn't tough. Had a step ladder tip over and go full speed right onto the floor. Nary a mark was there when I picked it up. I wouldn't ever buy laminate over hardwood, but I haven't been disappointed with ours.

Only concern is durability. I keep reading in DIY forums that laminates are much more durable. ESPECIALLY if you have pets and children. I've also read that laminates suck if they get wet.

    Think we're still doing hardwoods.

Any good places in Charlotte that'll have good prices? NOT Lowes or HD.

most houses in the city are on slabs, so you dont wanna mess with regular hardwoods anyway.

    Not on a slab.

Going with prefinished hardwoods. 3/4 inch thick and 3 1/4 wide.

STOP! BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!! they make linoleum square tiles with a wood grain appearance. use quarter-inch spacers and put grout in between the squares. I kicked the cat across the room the other day and it's claws scraped on my beautiful linoleum squares before he crashed head-first into the wall and broke his fucking neck. I was like, "Uh-oh, I fucked up the floor." But upon closer examination, I found NO DAMAGE WHATSOEVER!

linoleum wood-grain square tiles are the way to go. especially since your house is on a slab.
