Just saw a report on ESPN that said the Big Ten has issued preliminary invitations to Missouri, Nebraska, Notre Dame and Rutgers.

If it's true, what should the other conferences do?

Pretty much everything I've read treats it as a given that the Big 12 goes by the wayside and the Big East goes back to being a basketball conference with a big realignment. I'm most interested in seeing what the ACC will do.

The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if some of the member institutions don't secretly want the ACC to get raided so it can go back to the "good ol' days".

He hot rumor is that the SEC will come calling for FSU, Miami, GaTech and another ACC school, possibly Clemson or VaTech. If they went Clemson, that would lock up Florida, Georgia, south Carolina, mississipi, Louisiana and Alabama as SEC schools. Pretty strong.

ACC should raid the big east and make a basketball superconference.

I don't think Clemson would leave the ACC, and if I'm the SEC I'd rather have Va. Tech anyway.

That would leave the ACC with 8 schools again, which I would imagine make some purists pretty happy.

But I would guess that any SEC expansion would include swiping Texas and A&M from the Big 12. If they got those two, they'd only look to take two ACC schools. If they took Fla State and Miami, they'd have the strongest conference in the country no matter what anyone else did.

Lots of rumors flying including the Big 12 and the Pac 10 negotiating TV deals together to gain more leverage. The SEC and The soon Big 10+2 will set the standard as far as TV money goes. If I'm the Big 10, take Rutgers. No other school gets you into the NYC market. I'm afraid that Fla State will be courted heavily by the SEC if they decide to expand to 16, Clemson would be a target too but Florida State is the jewel. If the ACC has to expand they should go after West Vagina and Pitt.
