my step dad has them really bad... once passed one as big as a baby pea. He's been in the tub and eveything where they pound your back, and has had the surgery. You might think you want the surgery, but then there's the catheder to deal with.

then there's always the Dr. Cochran technique if you're a fan of Deadwood

It's actually called a stint y2b not a catheter. I've had 2 of them and each time they were removed a couple of days after my surgery the damn pain felt as severe as the kidney stone attack. Muscle relaxers helped relieve the spasms caused by the removal of the stint. Blasting is the best course for large stones. My wife had that procedure once and had no problems or pain at all. Just a little bruising near the blast spot.

I had one about 10 years ago and haven't had one since (knock on wood). I passed it at work and damn near pulled the urinal off the wall as I was pissing sweat pouring from me. This is no shit, a co-worker of mine had one and it was big enough in size for him to see stuck in the opening of his man tap. Here is the worst part. He took his leather man (universal pocketknife, pliers etc.. tool) and with the needle nose pulled the stone out while sitting on the toilet. To this day that makes my skin crawl thinking of it. My wife had one that was so big they had to do the lypsatripse (soundwave blasting tool) to break it up as it was lodged above the main vein that goes down her leg and her bladder. The doctor brought out what pieces she could get after the process. Nasty looking black and grey chips.

I have gotten them at least once with each pregnancy. And you're right, I'd rather have labor pains but the recovery pain from the C-sections wins out. They hurt something bad and there's nothing like peeing blood! Hope they pass quickly!

First one I had a sharp pain hit me in my lower left side. Started out like a severe gas pain then got much worse. After about 10 minutes it felt like someone was sticking a knife in my side. Nothing would help. Could not lay, walk, sit or stand. The second one was much different. I woke up one morning and when I started moving around it felt like I had pulled a muscle in my right lower back. I took 4 ibuprofen and the pain went away. They next day when I pissed it burned like hell. I looked down and blood was pouring out of my pecker. It must have been a small stone that passed.

I passed that little fucker last night about 11:30. Didn't really hurt that much - nothing even close to what it felt like Wednesday. I peed about 8:30 and felt a little pinch right at the end of my penis. It didn't really hurt but it felt like something was there - but when I pissed before bed out it cmes. Never felt it but it was in the strainer. of course now the tip is sore as hell and has been all day. Feels like it got caught in a zipper.

The picture below doesn't do it justice. that circle is aboiut the size of a quarter. Can't get a closeup but the edges are all jagged and shit - not as bad but like the other photo below. I go back to the urologist in about ten days to see what my future with painful deaths holds.

Can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to experiencing that shit again.

sorry, but your friend told you a bs story. your urethra is much wider than your ureter. if it could make it to the bladder, no way it gets stuck in your urethra.

i've had stones twice. the first time i knew it was something bad right away -- either stones or appendix, but leaning towards stones since i wasn't feverish or anything. doubled over puking and shaking on the floor. my wife (girlfriend at the time) happened to call me that morning and i asked to her to come over in case i needed to go to the hospital. she thought i was over-reacting till she found me sprawled on the bathroom floor unable to get dressed. little shit was only like 4mm. the meds in the er worked wonders and a steady diet of vicodin kept me happy till it passed a few days later. it was stuck at the entrance to the bladder.

the second time i was on vacation on the colorado river with my wife's family. i felt some pain growing in my gut and towards by balls, oddly enough. i told her i was having some problems and then it hit bad. all i could do was writhe around and cuss. a lot. they drove me to the er where i got an mri to locate the thing. this one was 12mm if i recall. by the time i made it to the hospital, i was actually feeling better but only because the thing was not a perfect sphere so it could rotate and let fluid thru (the fluid back pressure is a major cause of pain). they gave me fluids to help see if i could pass it and also some pain meds. they said if it comes back, they could send me to a different hospital to take care of it surgically. it came back the next day so i went down there again, but apparently the urologist at this other hospital was on vacation so they just gave me more fuilds, another mri, and more pain meds.

we had to drive home from arizona and my wife dropped me at the local er where i was hoping THEY could do something about it. instead, an xray and pain meds. they gave me a referral to urologist. it was sat night now so i called monday morning to make an appt. got in at the end of the day, talked to the guy, he sent me for ANOTHER mri and was going to arrange to have a procedure done the next day at local hospital... only THAT guy was out of town too. so my procedure was scheduled for the next monday (like 10 days or something after it hit me). i ended up passing the stone on saturday morning. i gotta say, that was the scariest piss i've ever taken. i pee'd what looked like coffee at first, then ended up distinctly bloody. the stone followed not long after. i was happy i didn't have to have somebody yank the thing out my dick.

turns out mri's a fucking expensive. since i had the disk from my last mri, i downloaded some software to view the data. pretty fucking cool, i must say.

i think the next time i get a kidney stone, i'm just going to take advil/motrin. that's what apparently works the best for them. this last one had me worried cuz it took forever to come out, but it did so now i know. in all my er room visits and urologist appt's, all that happened was i pissed the thing out anyway. why bother with all that if they aren't going to do anything?
