Don't know, but I imagine charcoal will alter the taste(more than electric), not that there's anything wrong with that.

not sure exactly what you have - if it's a regular smoker you can probably (and should probably) use wood chunks instead of charcoal - better smoke, better taste, will probably burn longer. But I don't really know since I'm using electric. If you are smoking with wood you have to keep a watch on the fire - don't want it too hot or it will cook too fast, too low and it will take forever. But never having smoked withanything but electric that is all speculation on my part.

The Brinkman electric I have is great. I just place the soaked wood in the smoker box or lay right on the gravel and the burners. Drawbacks are you can't really adjust the heat - can't turn it up or crank it down. Also hard to get more wood in the bottom after the initial wood smokes out and burns up. But there is more than enough smoke flavor without doing that.

There is a newish place in Fort Mill, I think it's owned by the same people that do Mac's. It's called Fort Mill BBQ Co and it's great. I get their large pulled pork with two sides, it's $12.50 but I can stretch it into 3 or 4 meals.

Not bad - but one of the reasons I love making my own is that butt cost about $8 (half price at Food Lion) Probably get about five pounds of bbq after it's all chopped up. That's alot of bbq sandwiches. Best thing is every kid in the family loves it and always wants more. One of the best and cheapeast meals we make.

of course the bad part about only cooking one butt is there is only one bone for the mutts to fight over.

I actually have the other Brinkman. Just haven't used it, like I said never worked with charcoal. Y'all make me want to go ahead and do it, see what I come up with.

Hot damn, I gotta look into that. It would save me a TON of cash.

What do you use to smoke it?

    edit: I'm guessing Brinkmann.
