    There are no details to give. I'm not looking for feedback on him, as a person. I started this thread to ask for info about the process of doing something like this. I'm not asking for opinions of the situation or whether the guy is potentially a fucktard. He's an accountant. Of course he's a dickhead.

    if he's active in the town, as you say, he could be privy to some insider development information. i would be quite suspicious. tell him you need some time to think on it, then wait. does he own any property back in behind you? are there larger tracts of land that could potentially be for sale or being looked at by a developer? how is it zoned? you may lose out on some profits from a potential sale if said developer wants land for right of way aquisition to their property. they could put a road in right beside you. you may not want that. if the land is still owned by you, you will have a say in the matter regarding protecting your privacy, property values, buffers, things like that.

    these things may be out of the question but i would at least wait a while and keep your eyes and ears open. past/future local city/county board meeting info could shed some light. the local paper usually covers those meetings. i work for a local government. i see things like this all the time.

    To answer the original question, talk to a realestate lawyer. My dad has several properties where he has worked with neighbors to redistribute land to better suit all parties. It's all done through lawyers.

    There won't be anything built along that line. I think he has OCD and wants a straight line in the back. I just don't see the point for all of the lawyers etc. for this tiny bit of land. Just silly and not worth it.

    It's nothing like that. This is my neighbor behind us, and it's a small strip between our back yards. At first glance at the land it actually appears to be his. But it's ours. It's on the opposite side of the powerlines and chicken-wire fencing that exists. But it's just overgrowth of the this strip of woods that is there. It's not buildable and requires no maintenance. It's just 'dead space'.
