That's what I was thinking.

I'd rather go deep into the playoffs and not win it all than I would not even be in them. I'd rather make the playoffs and lose the first game than not make them at all. Of course the goal would be to win the championship, but still, you try to win as many as you can.

I never said I necessarily agreed with the friend, I just said that's how he felt. I also never said he deprived the kids of anything, or didn't work just as hard in the seasons he didn't feel like he had a chance as he did the ones he felt like he could win it all. He just said that he was disappointed in his season every year except the ones he won the state championship.
