Thanks. Is Skype reliable and cost effective? May just go with that.

Yes, very reliable. I call customers all day long with it and have no complaints...

    I have:
Skype Out World - Unlimited calling to any number in the world for $13/month. But it gets a lot cheaper if you only call one country or only in the US

Skype IN- which gives me a phone number in ANY area code that I want for $60/ year.

Skype to Go - which gives me a phone number to call that lets me use Skype if I dont have skype access from my current location such as from my cell phone. Which is free with my World acct.

When I travel abroad, I can use my laptop to call home.

Done! Finally got the VOIP to work and didn't have to get involved with the cable people. Only had to change some settings. Pretty cool setup.

What did you end up doing so maybe when someone looks back here, we know how to do it in the future?

Well, one thing was getting around the firewall. Other than that, I had someone talk me through the Linksys settings which involved correcting some stuff on the back end. We got the VOIP hardware already programmed in Peru and some of the data was incorrect. Basically, the phone serves as an extension of my mother in laws Peru office. Either we or they dial a three digit extension and the phone rings in my house or in Peru depending on who is calling who. It's pretty cool. We have a website that's getting ready to go public for which we are going to handle the sales. Hopefully this will all work out. Always have a plan B, especially in this economy.
