Bob Johnson looks to finalize sale to MJ by weeks end and Larry Hughes may be a Bobcats soon

We briefly mentioned yesterday that now that Larry Hughes has been bought out by the Kings, a likely landing spot for Hughes would be the Bobcats.

And as Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer writes today, Hughes has plenty of connections to the team: "A source familiar with the situation said Hughes would like to sign with the Bobcats. Hughes played in Philadelphia for Bobcats coach Larry Brown and worked with Bobcats general manager Rod Higgins when Higgins was in management roles in Washington and Golden State."

Another plus for Hughes: the team could bring him in for a veteran-minimum contract which would cost the team $240,000 the rest of the year. Such a salary wouldn't put them over the luxury-tax threshold, something Charlotte has no interest in.

Hughes did have his problems with Mike D'Antoni at times this season, but he has averaged 9.6 points, 3.5 boards and 3.5 assists this season, and could be a decent scoring option off the bench for the Bobcats as they make a push for their first ever playoffs appearance.

Looks like MJ bought the team, that's good news imo. Better than the previous owner and likely better than the Houston guy.

Also, Cats finally got off the schneide last night in Memphis.

Hopefully his owning the team will mean that he will be more involved and put some effort into making the team successful both on and off the court.

His name will help in the area and league, but no doubt, he needs to work hard, and make himself visable doing so, show up to several games as well.

If they can get Mohamed and or Chandler back soon they have a good shot at the playoffs. That would help out with fan support a lot I think. Especially if they get matched up with the Cavs in the first round and win a few games.
