Yes, but the Georgetown game was a pretty major gaffe. Most teams don't win a title because of a player on the opposing team being confused about who they were passing to. It's not like there was intense defensive pressure either. Just a horrible mistake. Regardless, if Georgetown had been better it wouldn't have mattered.

Roy Williams isn't exactly a defensive mastermind, but you're an idiot. They won a lot of games in that tournament with their defense. You don't get to the title game by luck either. Chapel Hill embarrassed a very good Okalahoma with their defense. They were a really good team when they were playing lax defense, but when they picked it up, no one was beating them. And they were playing really excellent defense all tournament long.

 

Oklahoma couldn't hit anything. They were 0-15 on 3's before they even hit one. If you quit being ignorant for a minute, you might remember Oklahoma had many wide open shots. They just didn't hit anything. That doesn't mean Carolina was playing great defense. I'll agree with you, Carolina picked up their D in the tournament, no doubt about that. But you really think they won just because of their defense ? That is what Duke survives by. That was my original point. Quit taking my comments out of context. I said if you switched coaches and gave Roy this year's Duke team then they wouldn't be near as good, because Roy isn't near as big on defense as Coach K is.

 

Dean Smith was 24-14 vs. Krzyewski (won 8 of last 9 before he retired)
Roy Williams is 7-6 vs. Coack K. as UNC coach.
Krzyewski is 33-35 vs. UNC.

Krzyewski had success against Guthridge & Doherty (13-4)

 

and they both coached carolina during my life.

 

If UNC had played better, we wouldn't be talking about that pass either. But I guess we could mention other plays before that, if it weren't UNC.

While these aren't the only defensive stats you can look at to determine how good a team is defensively, considering your statements, it's strange to find UNC leading in all of these defensive stats last year and this year.

The Shane Battier award. Duke's defense is not what it used to be. There's a reason they haven't been to a Final Four in a while.

You're almost as bad as UNCoverDuke.

 

Duke's defense isn't the problem. It's the lack of a post game. I'm not in denial that Duke hasn't been down the past 5 or 6 years because they have. Hopefully they'll get over the hump this year, even though I seriously have my doubts.

 

thats why they play the game, have the tournaments, winner takes all..........unless you want a format like college football.

then unc would probably have 10 or more national championships based on regular season performance, rpi, whatever.
