The thing about losing weight is, for the most part, going to the gym doesn't lose much for you. Most people who start at the gym gain weight because they feel they can justify eating more. You have to almost starve yourself. I make myself walk away from every meal still feeling hungy.

I've been working out straight for years and over the past 2 years I had slowly put on 10 lbs. The weight I am currently losing is all because of diet because my workout routine hasn't changed and I hit it pretty hard at the gym. My lifting routine is high rep circuit training which is non stop hard work and I do 40 min. of hard cardio after.

I used to run 30 miles/week and that will get the weight off, but that is a lot of exercise. Regular workouts don't do that.

    They have a Napoleon Complex.

I admire your willpower. I'm cranky even when I stuff myself. When I diet, I become homicidal.

It takes a lot of will power to lose weight. I have never been hooked on drugs or smoked but I can not imagine it being any harder to deal with than starving yourself.

It really comes down to burning more calories that you take in. One pound equals about 3,500 calories. For me, i accomplish this with a combination of diet AND exercise. But you are right, if people are eating more because they are working out, they defeat the point. I don't have to starve myself, but I do have to keep my meals and portions smaller.

For me, it is a simple solution. Eat less, move more, lose weight.

How much weight have you lost doing that? How long have you kept it off?

I never really have to lose much. To me, it is more about a lifestyle. I usually add 8-10 pounds during football season (mostly) because i drink more beer. Then shed it in the winter and get ready for golf season. To me, it is all about a lifestyle. My diet is already pretty clean. Very little fried foods. No heavy sauces. Not much soda. I eat because I have to, not because I love it. For that I am lucky. My only dietary vice is chocolate.

I have never been heavier than 190 lbs (i am 5'9") in my life and weighed in this morning at 177. I would like to be down to 172 by April 1. That is basically 1 pound a week...which is nothing.

I am glad that is working for you but what you describe is a whole different ball game than the one faced by an obese person who needs to lose 75 or 100 pounds. Assuming they can lose the whole amount as easily as you drop the 10 pounds you put on during football season if they just do the same things you do for a longer time period is not going to hold up.
