I'm saying that instead of giving a BoGillian dollars to Jake Delhomme to pick his ass all day, they could have figured out a way to secure their biggest defensive asset. I can't even go into all the other bad contracts we've done because they're too many to mention.

I agree that they should not have paid Delhomme the way they did. I do not think that has any impact on bringing back Peppers. It is not like they would not sign him to a long term deal that made sense for both him and the team. Even if we had cut Delhomme after his playoff debacle I would still not want to over pay for Peppers.

THis is a very weak FA class so I would hope we re-sign guys like Marshall,Davis, & Matt Moore instead of signing guys like Burelson or Antonio Bryant.

It won't be hard to resign those guys, and what does this have to do with peppers?

What's your definition of overpayment? Numbers would be helpful

To answer your question: By not resigning Peppers, we now have the money to resign Marshall and Thomas Davis

Alot depends on the CBA I guess. Uncapped year makes them RFA again, and very cheap.

Didn't we get back some cap space for the 09 season by extending Delholmme? The same money we tied up forever by waiting on Peppers to sign his franchise tender?

He was overpaid last year and would be overpaid next year if he plays under the tag again. Making him the highest paid defensive player in the league would be over paying him.

this article supports that recent crazy idea of mine that peppers may not be playing in 2010 . . .
If the panthers don't tag him who is going to sign him to the type of long-term guaranteed deal that he and his agent are demanding?

it looks complicated and apparently Richardson/Hurney are not going to risk tying up all that cash with so much uncertainty looming concerning all things financial in the NFL

. . . the question becomes; exactly when does all of the financial and legal mumbo jumbo get figured out so some team will feel all good about throwing 100 million at peppers (half of which will have to be guaranteed)?
