I am ready to see him gone. I would like to get something in return for him but I do not really want him back here. Knowing that he does not really want to be here and that he will be over paid makes me just want to move on. Charles Johnson and Everett Brown looked decent to me and are probably ready to start.

It pains me to think that were gonna let Peppers walk & get nothing for him!
It doesnt pain me to actually lose him, he's a great talent but not a great player. He doesnt consistantly dominate like he should.

Even if we tag Peppers, no other team will give us fair value because they know we wont sign him long term & we wont give him that one yr tender for 20 million.

"fair value" is a subjective term...... I would be happy to get second round pick for him.

There's no 'US' or 'WE' in team. There is an 'eat' and a 'me', though.

2nd rounder would be great! Trading him to Cleveland for a mid pick & Josh Cribbs would be even better! Its not gonna happen tho!
I doubt we'll even tag him, we might but if we do we'll quickly realize that no team will trade for him (like last year) & we'll take the tag off him after free agency starts.

Players all over the NFL are suiting up for teams that they do not want to play for. It's the way it is. We are a better team when Peppers is on the field. But you also have to balance that with being fiscally responsible.

Last year, his agent (who is a fucking idiot) made a power play. He lost miserably and he and Pep looked the part. I don't know that Pep wanted out so much as they wanted UFA status so that teams could get into a bidding war. It was the only way they had any leverage. This year, they are playing the other side...acting like the victim. To me, they look just as dumb. Most good agents keep the media out of contract negotiations.

We really only have two options:

Sign him to a long term deal. The problem with that is that there is probably a much larger difference between what we think he is worth and what Carl Carey thinks he is worth. So getting a deal done that makes sense to the organization financially is probably a long shot.

Let him go and get nothing. The only way you can trade him and get any value out of him is to tag him. That is a huge risk. We tried that last year and there were no takers. The compensation is enormous, because after you give up a pick (or two or three), you then have to fork over a contract in the $15 mil a year range. Most teams aren't willing to do that so the Panthers must be willing to risk keeping him on the books at $21.5 million.

Yeah man thats exactly my point! No team will fork over pics....& 15mil per year for Peppers.
AND knowing that we're not singing him long term doesnt help any trade discussions either.

Maybe the Raiders are dumb enough to fall for it but we have to face it: Peppers is walking away....

I just hope he doesnt sign for the Falcons!

My only wish is that this is the only thread about it until he's actually signed, with the panthers or another team

might as well be a sticky...

If I were Peppers I would hope to get tagged, and I'd discourage people from trading for me.

18.5 or so million for '09 and possibly 20 more this year, I'd like to be that stupid.
