I'm guessing you are fiscally responsible.....you can avoid fees anywhere if you don't bounce checks, or use others ATMs.

You should bank at one of the online banks....they'll pay your ATM fees for any ATM brand. Some of the regional brick and mortar banks are adopting this model as well. SCBT is one I know of.

maybe, but I've never had a single issue with BofA so it would be going out of my way to make a change away from something that works great for me

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.....I agree. Just pointing out the ATM model of many banking institutions who either have limited or no ATM presence. It's an interesting model to me for a couple of reasons: 1. It's fucking brilliant!
    2. It drives BofA, specifically, crazy....which is kind of funny.

Try to be responsible. Other than that, I just read the literature and/or ask questions about the account. If it has a balance requirement I meet that requirement. If it is a free account then it is free as long as no overdrafts occur. I NEVER use other bank ATM. Why would I? In the rare occurance I can not find a BofA ATM I just run into any grocery store, buy a coke or something, and get cash back. It is so easy to avoid bank fees.

I use an online bank, but not for every day banking. I use it just for savings as the rates are usually better.

Well they've been charging me a checking account fee as long as I've had my account - it's only like 7 bucks a month, but it still pisses me off. I can't maintain a "minimum balance" - I've never overdrawn, or bounced a check, but my balance has been down to a couple of dollars before. Anyway, it's done - I transferred all my stuff to First Citizens this morning, they promised me free checking as long as I didn't have a NEGATIVE balance, no fees, and here's the big one that sold me - NO FEES FOR USING ANOTHER BANKS ATM - the other bank may charge me, but they will not. I rarely use ATM's, I just do what VA said and go the grocery store and get cash back. Most of the time I try to avoid keeping much cash on me period, I just spend it faster.

I guess I still do have an associate account. I've never been charged a fee for another banks atm....otherr than the fee charged by the other bank.
