    3* TE commits

Since they day he started talking with those guys, he’s been in love with the university,” Memphis (Tenn.) Hillcrest head football coach William Johnson said. “You know how kids are – that is where he wants to be. He has a lot of loyalty to those guys and he’s excited about being a part of [UNC].”
Alton, a 6-foot-6, 260-pound jumbo athlete, was scheduled to officially visit UNC over the weekend. However, inclement weather canceled his flight and ultimately forced him to postpone the trip.

Saturday, in a phone conversation with Butch Davis, Alton was extended a UNC scholarship offer. Alton quickly accepted.

The official trip to UNC has been rescheduled for one of the next couple of weekends in February.

UNC is recruiting Alton as a defensive end.

“Every coach has a kid on their team, at some point or another, that you feel like is your dream son – if you don’t have one of your own,” Johnson said. “[Alton] embodies all the positive qualities that you look for. You want your son to be a great student, which he is. You’d like for him to be a devout Christian, which he is. Also you’d like for him to be a good athlete; not only is he a good athlete, he’s 6-6, 260 [pounds]. A high school kid like that is rare – that’s all I can say.”

Before this fall, Alton hadn’t played a down of football since pee-wee. He spent most of his prep career focused on basketball until deciding to tryout for the football team this past spring.

Alton started at both defensive end and tight end for Hillcrest this past season. On the year, he recorded 21 tackles, four sacks, and

Casey Turner to North Carolina apparently isn’t a done deal.

“I wouldn’t say he’s wavering, but I believe he’s still thinking,” Jacksonville (Fla.) White head football coach Terry Gilliam said Tuesday afternoon.

Turner will announce between UNC and Rutgers Wednesday morning and then sign with the selected school.

This announcement will be a part of a Signing Day Ceremony at West Chester (Ohio) Lakota West High School.

Smith, a 6-foot-5, 235-pound tight end, will choose between staying with his North Carolina verbal commitment or opting for Kentucky.

IC sources confirmed that Smith is definitely wavering on his verbal commitment to UNC and has been strongly considering Kentucky.

“He has family [in Kentucky] and it’s closer to home,” the source said.

Originally, Smith verbally committed to Cincinnati in February, but de-committed five months later.

After taking official visits to UNC and Wisconsin, Smith verbally committed to the Tar Heels just before Thanksgiving.

Shortly after committing to the Tar Heels, Smith attempted to enroll for the spring semester at UNC. However, he fell a half credit short of qualifying.

Maybe 'this year' the stands won't be 50% red at the first of the game, and 100% red during the 4th quarter. Go Tarheels in '10.....
