Assuming the cap comes back in 2011 him signing with a division rival for a deal that pays him a lot more than he is worth would work to our advantage. Football is not basketball. No one player is worth tying up a huge chunk of your cap especially if he is not a QB.

If we tag him and there is no cap, then he will have to play or hurt his chances of getting a fat new capped contract with another team in 2011. 20 million doesn't mean anything to the Panthers in an uncapped year. It doesn't hurt us other than money out of the owners pocket. It won't prevent us from signing anyone in 2010. The up side is we get him for another probowl season or find someone dumb enough to trade for him. Either way it's a win/win. Letting him walk is a complete LOSS.

I'd like to know that too . .. How are the panters going to get a 1st round pick for him? Is there any team blindly desperate for a gifted but lazy 30 something to provide spotty production and no leadership. Who is going to gamble their cap future to make peppers the highest paid D player in history? If anyone was going to show some interest I think they would have shown it a while back when he was a year younger and cheaper.
Somebody stated that we'd get a 3rd for him if he walks . .. I'd take that 3rd and be grateful for a future without having to plug in bargain band-aids all over the place because one Prima Donna and his asshole agent are handcuffing the entire team.

Getting a comp. 3rd isn't a slam dunk unless they choose to not spend any money.

Comp 3rd would also depend on how many F/A Panthers sign
    more F/A lower comp
Also the extra pick will be the following season Not this season

Didn't they spend pretty much all last offseason and up to week 6 of the regular season "trying to work something out"?
