Starbucks has closed over 1000 stores in the past 18 months.

I know of 3 people that have started coffee shops in the past 2 years and none made it more that a year.

I'm not saying it's a good idea. Just thinking that their are several "one of" shops I go to and they have at least stayed in business. I always want them to sell more than just coffee and muffins.

a little exaggeration but if you can get people to spend that, you might stay in business

I wonder if it would be an asset to have topless waitresses.

bulk coffee can't be that expensive wholesale. I guess in some you have milk, flavors, whatever but when it comes down to it, it's not a hard equation.

Basic breakfast ingredients are cheap too. Breakfast is a good business to be in, relative to the food industry.

There is a coffee shop like that not far from here. They serve a soup of the day and sandwiches and simple stuff like that, but they don't serve booze.

Actually, I rented it for the afternoon for my daughters 7th birthday party. All the little girls loved it :SPcheer006cheerbril

If they want to sell more than coffee and muffins they have to install a commercial kitchen up to health department code which costs a lot to install, run and staff so you would have to go to a full menu and move a lot of food.

The only other option is bringing in pre-packaged food (muffins, sandwiches) from a kitchen under health department inspection and sell it in the package. There is little to no margin there but plenty of increased liability.

If you just have to do it find one in trouble and buy it or just assume the lease. There are restaurants and coffee shops everywhere going under that would give you the place to get out of the lease.

Six months ago I was offered a coffee shop/Deli in a high end, mixed use retail center. The owner was willing to give everything in it, including the kitchen equipment if we would just assume the lease. Unless you are established, every commercial space wants the lease personally guaranteed so if your business doesn't work out, they can take your house.

Find one in distress and take it over on tranistional permits. It will save you a ton of time and money so when it comes time to bail, you are not out your life savings.

You starting to see why so many people don't like you?
