they aint got it. they did well as complimentary players in the past, but with hansbrough, green, ellington, and lawson gone...they're lost. i always thought thompson was a stiff anyways.

this is just the beginning of the ass beatings 2010.

    Bad Karma

I haven't had a good feeling about this season since Roy threw that Presbyterian out of the Dean Dome.:worried:

Heels have never done a good job defending the 3. They didn't do when Dean was there and it hasn't changed.

The "idea" is to defend the higher percentage shots more, and risk giving up the 3 with it being a lower percentage. It's a good strategy, but there should be a fall back plan when teams like C of C or any other team are hitting the outside shot.

The team with Lawson, Ellington, and Ginyard as freshmen was equally as inconsistent and they were not playing near as tough a schedule.

    Take a chill pill people.

It is a bad strategy if the team is intent on shooting 3s. The general rule of thumb is that a point per possesion is very good, so to average that you have to score on 50% of your possesions if you shot only 2s, and only on 33.3% of your possesions if you shoot only 3s.

Obviously no one shoots any one type exclusively, but this does expose another one of Roy's flaws - that he stubbornly sticks to one plan regardless of the strengths of the opponent.

Roy's strategy was basically working until crunch time arrived (last 4 minutes). It was obvious that UNC's plan was to pound it inside & wear Charleston down, while Charleston's plan was to shoot as many open threes as they could get. Charleston is ranked 27th in the NCAA for 3-point goals per game, while UNC is 265th.

You're absolutely right about Roy being stubborn with the gameplan. The Tar Heels only took six 3-pointers. Trouble is, opposing teams know this and anticipate the entry passes and let certain Heels shoot all they want from the outside. Cremins team shot 32 times from the arc, & made 13. That's a good percentage!

    dammit

I just lost a very well written and incredibly astute post. I hate TBR and the fucking log out after five minutes shit.

oh well - Heels sucked. Regular season in the ACC is going to be a bitch. I hope my new TV survives.

Whatever annoyed you with Dean is going to annoy you with Roy...they are one and the same. UNC will always be good, but with Roy at the helm you'll never get anything different than "Dean ball".........The 'Heels will be fine, but don't expect any dynamic changes ....you t-heels should feel lucky.

Seems to work out pretty well for them.
