Do the Chimney sweeping logs really work?

I hope so. We just paid $15 for one. No one's looked at the chimney since it was built in 99. Maybe time to have it professionally checked.

We moved in this summer and haven't had someone out to check it out and give it a good clean. It looks clean but you can't really tell how much build up is on it. I'm thinking about getting one of the logs and seeing if the house won't blow up or catch on fire.

They work ok, but there is powdered stuff that works better. [IMG]

You just sprinkle a few scoops on the coals after a hot fire- really wear gloves like it says or you'll burn your hand :(

I use a little bacon grease to start my fires. It works like a champ but I wonder what it's potentially done to the chimney over the years.

Oh well, insurance is paid up and that bitch will be blazing this weekend.

I am going to use one of these also

Thanks, I will buy all of those and burn them all at once. That should do the job.

they dont replace cleaning. if you have any doubt about your flue, get the brush and extension rods, and scrub it out yourself. its messy but its worth it. if you dont want to do it, get a pro. they'll be in and out in no time.

I guess you'd have the same problem burning #2 heating oil too?
