They are a BCS conference becuase the teams in it are some of the largest, oldest and traditionally strongest athletics programs in the country. They are down now but won't be forever. It won't matter forever though....things will change.

I think that's true in a lot of sports, but not really in football. GT has a strong history, but they haven't won a title since 1990. They haven't really been a threat since then either.

FSU may be able to recover now that Bowden is retiring, but he also build the program. Miami has a strong tradition and they may recover. VT has been great under Beamer, but they are a perennial underachiever. Who else has been a powerhouse in recent history?

about 1/2 to 3/4 of the acc football teams have been under major transition in the last 5 years or so. going forward, I would say that these teams are set up well for success.

yeah, but if there are not 3 teams consistantly in the top 5 in the rankings, the ACC will still not be a BCS calibre conference.

That's the counter-argument. If the ACC isn't good enough for an automatic BCS bid, then why is the Big East? As I stated earlier of the 11 BCS bowl bids received by the Big East, five of them went to a team that currently plays in the ACC.

The Big East was in no way, shape, or form worthy of a BCS bid in the year following the realignment, when Pitt got crushed by Utah. Not too long ago, the Pac 10 was about equal to the MWC if you remove USC. I know thats a big if, but is just having USC worthy of receiving an automatic bid? Just two years ago, Virginia Tech was #3 in the nation going after the regular season. Certainly the ACC was worthy of a BCS bid that year, right? The ACC is having a down year this year and is still stronger top to bottom than the Big East.

The most important point of all is that you can't judge a conference on their worthiness every single year. The ACC has had some fairly strong years, but on the whole it remains largely a basketball conference. Same with the Big East. Where ass the SEC was horrible in basketball last season, but they are still considered a top of the line conference in basketball too, and overall they are.

    Riiight.

The ACC has 2, count them, 2 wins in the BCS. They are 2-9 as a conference. That is garbage. The big east is 6-5. They may not have any at-large bids, but at least they managed to win games with their autobids.

The Big East is 3-3 without the teams that went to the ACC. Is that garbage + ?

So, what you're saying is, the ACC took the best teams from the Big East, and the Big East has still managed to win more games than the ACC and post a better win percentage?

Is it impossible there will be improvement given time? What's your point?

Leave him alone Chip. I'm amused by his obsession.

I'm saying half the wins you want to give the Big East aren't in the Big East anymore.

It's obvious you just hate the ACC.
