Talking money, not exposure. Who does ND have to share that TV money with?

It would be awfully, awfully close.

ND gets $9 mil/year in TV. Plus whatever bowl revenue they can get. In addition (and I didn't know this until I went out onto the internets), the BCS rules changed and ND only gets 4.5 mil of those really big BCS payouts - and they still have to make the BCS. The other BCS conferences split the rest of that (which is really weird). No help for expenses - they are on their own.

Big 10 Network made $57 mil last year - and that's without the ~$15 mil they'd pull with a championship game. Big 10 splits everything evenly (or used to) so with a championship game, each team would get ~ 6.5 mil. The last two years the Big 10 cleared $2.2 mil in BCS/bowl payouts. That's $8.7 mil per team just for showing up. You can be Indiana and you are still getting that $8.7 mil. Plus, I expect the Big 10 network $$$ to grow past the ND/NBC deal $$$. Big 10 splits expenses (at least bowl expenses) among all teams. And the Big 10 network shows all kinds of other sports which would be included in the package as well.

Where did the $57 Million for the BTN number come from?

I never imagined that showing Big Ten football repeats (on my TV right now) @ channels 711-716 on Comcast was worth so much. Who knew?

Just a question and I may be way off base here, but would them joining say the Big 10 cause them to also have to adjust their other sports (basketball) to the conference? The basketball program is with the Big East. Just wondering if the bball already being involved in the Big East has something to do with this also.

Yeah, they would join the Big Ten as a full member and the Big East would add another team. Who would be a difficult question though. I think it would be difficult to find a school that the basketball and football schools agree on. I could see the basketball schools pushing for somebody like Xavier and the football schools for ECU.

How about a bowl with Notre Dame playing Florida State ? The final would be something like 62-59. Two pathetic defenses would mean a shoot-out. Play it in Detroit, they need the money.
