    since NBC gave them that crazy tv contract, they haven't done shit. No school should have it's own contract like that anyway. The so called "glory days" are over, however Weiss recruited good talent to South Bend, he just couldn't coach worth a shit. I think they could return to 8 and 9 wins a season, just not as consistent as they used to be

    As for the tv deal with NBC it is no longer relevant. Everyone in the top 25 has virtually every game televised. Weiss has recruited some good offensive talent but not on defense. I heard a report recently but I have not confirmed it that Notre Dame has not had a defensive player make an NFL roster is something like 5 years. That says a lot if it's true. I do agree that the Irish could be a top 25 team again but not a consistent contender for a championship unless they get an elite coach like Urban Meyer and drop their academic standards a bit.

    ND could easily be a top 5 program. They have the money, the support and the tradition. They just need a better coach. Get old boy from TCU or BSU, someone who has shown they can get it done.

    I think joining a conference would be a good step for Notre Dame. It would help the Big Ten also.
