This must be why good OL coaches are so sought after.

Me too, but then I'm sure he's getting external pressure to get Smitty involved. And I'm not happy about them not bringing anyone in that could challenge Jake after the playoff debacle, but I don't feel like that's on Davidson either.

Now, drafting two backs #1, and being pass happy when the running game is productive, come on.

I have issues with that too. I had issues when Henning would kill drives with a first-down chuck, too. Maybe it was OK when he did it, since everyone's revising history.

It's a thin line, and this team has always had a problem with it. Early 08 we passed too much. Most of Henning's tenure we passed too much.
on the flip side of that we get too comservative and people think we're shielding the QB or sitting on the ball. There should be more balance but it's been this way for 8 years. Before that we just passed too much. Ideally you do the right thing every time aside from that you execute.

No they are so the players can learn the scheme and be prepared to execute various plays, some of which are complicated. They are to game plan for a specific opponent and make sure players know their tendencies.

I do not think many players arrive in the NFL unable to play their position very well and get "coached up". Either you have the ability or you do not. No amount of coaching can make you able to run faster, jump higher or react sooner.

They are sought out for their schemes and game plans. They do not make bad offensive linemen good.

something neat about the other things quoted - those were people who had actual opinions. Crazy shit huh? finding that talking about something is actually more interesting than posting a bunch of nothing.

This might be one of the dumbest things you've ever posted. What about something like pass rush moves or pass blocking technique?

EDIT: also given the disparity in funding for football programs, for equipment and decent coaches, the difference between say University of New Mexico and Ohio st. would probably be pretty significant and a player could get improve in lots of areas physically, it's why you hear about some players being a 'project that needs to fill out'.

athletic ability isn't the only thing to sports.
it's actually a small part...mental and physical action are a much bigger part. Or else the combine would determine who was good and who wasn't.

I'm gonna stop beating around the bush. I don't think you could be more wrong. That's fine - you have your opinion and I have mine. There's plenty of places in our history it's clear that coaching has made a positive or negative difference.
