If your going to go for it in a situation like that.. why not just run the ball on 3rd down?

I understand the percentages. In this case, I just think it's refreshing to see a coach show some balls and go for the win. They get that yard, and Belichick is Coach of the Year in the media's eyes. That's just the way it works. Now, blowing two timeouts for no reason was fucking stupid, but I still admire the decision to try and end the game right there. If you're playing against Jamarcus Russell, of course you punt. But when Peyton Manning needs six points to win, against a prevent defense, he's probably going to get it regardless of where he starts the drive.

A coach showing the size of his balls isn't the purpose of playing a football game. Winning is the reason for the season. Going for it in that situation is just plain stupid. Punt the damn ball and you probably win the game. Belichick is blessed with having the best QB in the NFL. Let me know when he wins a Super Bowl without Brady taking the snaps.

Not gonna argue that Brady has been the best in recent years or arguably the best in most of the recent years, but I'd take Manning or Brees this year. That said, I thought it was a stupid call. In Colts territory to maybe get another set of downs and a score? Maybe. Their own 30? Insane.

And he was trying to win the game.

Do "the percentages" really exist, or is that just a bunch of voo-doo shit. I've never seen the actual percentages that distinguish converting a yard from making a team drive 60 yards.

The statistics that I can dig up say 100% of the time: "PUNT THE FUCKING BALL".
