    Eewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, what is worse . . . Having the Bobcats games on a pretty powerful Spanish station (106.1) O-R have them on a 5k watt sportstalk station that you can't hear outside of the city limits at night? If WFNZ is going to be the home of the Bobcats radio broadcasts, they better bet teamed up with one of their FM sister stations (WPEG) !!!!!!

    ==========

    From the Bobcats Notes section of the Observer . . .

    At last check, the Bobcats still didn't have a local radio home for the coming season. I think the most logical landing spot is WFNZ, but that was also the case in past seasons. Working out an arrangement with WFNZ is complicated by pre-existing commitments to North Carolina and Charlotte 49ers broadcasts

    That would suck. It would essentially mean missed Bobcat games for me as I can't get 610 at night here (Carowinds area, but still Charlotte city limits!)

    While I know the Bobcats haven't set the city on fire, I would at least hope this would make WFNZ treat them like they're actually in town. Or perhaps even with a tiny bit of respect.

    When the team re-locates to Vegas the broadcast rights will be settled.

    Im still wondering why WFNZ didn't switch to 1660 (which has the better signal, but only by a hair) vs. staying on 610. The whole idea of making 1660 a news talk outlet (sans local programming) is a bad idea; How can a 5k watt station compete against the 50k watt clear channel blowtorch (WBT) ? I don't think it will last a year (format switch) !

    I hope they do something, the format switch has taken sports talk radio out of the equation for me. I know I complained about their format a lot, but only locally. I still listened to quite a bit of national programming on 1660. I don't know what makes them think they can take on WBT head-on though.

    SDS, did FNZ rebrand themselves as The Fan? I seem to be hearing promos for that when I can actually get a signal.

    WFNZ in 5,000 Watts Directional Daytime, 1,000 Watts Directional at night when the Bobcats would be playing. WBCN is 10,000 Non-direction Daytime, 1,000 Watts Non-Directional at Night.

    I understand the Bobcats and CBS have an agreement in principle that would place the game broadcasts on 610 when the Tar Heels are not playing and 1660 when they are. There is some sort of legal issue that is holding up the official announcement.

    It is not known what would happen in the event the Tar Heels, Bobcats and 49ers are playing at the same time. Tar Heels are known to have first priority but it is not known who would have second priority. Might be part of the legal hold up.

    It is known that Davidson, Knights and Checkers will no longer be heard on 610 or 1660.

    Leaving WFNZ on 610 was the best option. 610 is considered to be the better signal. Many people still have radios that do not pick up the expanded AM band.

    You can forget about CBS putting the Bobcats games on either of their Urban FMs. They were #1 and #2 in the latest ratings. They are not going to do anything to mess that up...

    I must live in the right direction (north of Harrisburg on 49) I get 610 all the way home around 11 to 12 pm but lose 1660 about halfway.
    the spanish station didnt do to well going that way either

    But I agree with DJ,going up against 1110? good luck with that

    I can pick up 610 all the time in Salisbury. Conversely, I couldn't pick up the FM station they were on.
