    Mithra was actually a Persian God that re-surfaced in Rome during the time of early Christianity.
    In the Persian version (hey, a rhyme!!) Mithra originally had one follower, in the Roman re-birth of Mithra he had 2. In the stories, Mithra performed miracles, but much different that the Messianic miracles of Jesus, and there are no references to Mithra rising from the dead, in fact, according to the Persian story there is no reference to Mithra ever dying. A lot of the Roman Mithra story post dates Christianity, and so some of the supposed similarities are perhaps based on Jesus.

    The belief that the story of Jesus was founded on Mithra story doesn't hold much water.

    I think the connection 84niner is making is that Satan's purpose is to separate man from God. An atheist is an end product (but not the only one) of that effort.
