I know where you're coming from on the manual shift. It's going to take me a while to get use shifting those gears again but I like a truck, especially a ranger with a clutch. My new, well 2006 but it's like new has a smooth clutch in it. It's the first truck I ever drove that you can let out the clutch and go without touching the gas. Unless you're on a hill of course. I went for the manual to achieve maximum fuel mileage and because I drive it on interstate 90% of the time. I can set the cruise on 70 in 5th gear and never touch it until I exit for work.

What he said. I have a '03 Mitsubishi with 108K and a '96 Infiniti with 140K. My Dad is @ 249K(!) on a late 90's Caddy. I'm eyeing up a used Corolla - the one Reb should be buying - for my next car. Don't make me abuse you.

I am not going to trade the car in. I would like a truck but it can wait until I get the credit cards paid off....

Knock on wood, I've never carried a credit card balance. Whenever I get anything on time it makes me a nervous wreck until it's paid off.

I agree. I can not for the life of me understand why people pay interest on last week's dinner. That $20 meal could wind up costing double/triple, whatever in the long run. Not such a great meal when you look at it that way.

I know. Even on my '01 Taurus that I got in '04(maybe '03), I traded in an '87 DeVille and paid the difference in cash. I'm not rich, just "thrifty." :)

The government tried to tempt me into doing something stupid with the cash for clunkers deal but I resisted the temptation. I am at almost 140k miles on my car. It needs to last two more years so I can get out of debt. I am keeping my fingers crossed. I had the transmission rebuilt a couple of months ago so maybe it will last.

I took the cash for clunkers deal this week, I got a hell of a deal. Such a deal I paid cash for it.
