Over 30% or Rosario's 2008 production happened in one game, so while I don't necessarily believe Barnidge is the next Mark Bavaro, it's not heretical to say that there should be competition for the #2 TE.

It's not heresy to say there should be competition. With Rosario having surgery, I'd say about 40% of fans have elected the position outright to Barnidge. Which is what I was talking about, not that they suggested competition.

Given that our 2nd TE played in 45% of sets and equaled the starter's production I don't think that's realistic.

Fans making a decision and playing favorites before a down is even played isn't anything new, whether it's based on what they see, what the beat writers tell them, or even making shit up. EDIT: the last one isn't meant to be a shot on anyone.

yeah, I get that. I'm just trying to figure out why. When Jarrett* played first string for a few meaningless practices there weren't people readily cutting Moose that same year. I read this week that because Barnidge is "already second string", that it's Rosario v/s Brock, and that Brock obviously fits us better and we only have "so much room."

Even in my supposed pimping of Rosario, who's the most talented player we have at that position, there were some telltale signs that he could play. A couple big plays in 07. A deep ball TD with the starters in preseason followed by the best performance at the position this decade gave me some reason to think the guy was worth a shit even if he mailed the rest of the season in (and he did).

What's giving people the confidence in Barnidge? That Rosario's not playing because of surgery? People oughta be really scared about defensive tackle, then (should be anyway, really).

*not my typical jab at Jarrett. This one's serious but not aimed at him.

    Maybe you read too much?

I didn't even know who Brock was until just now.

Besides the obvious Gantt joke, I would guess it's because Moose was seen as a veteran needing rest and Jarrett was still waiting to be cut since he couldn't beat out colbert and carter.

    OTA Heroes.

We'll see what Barnidge does, but Rosario only had to beat out Fauria for playing time in 07, Barnidge had to beat out Rosario on a team that obviously had more lofty ambitions than the wild card on prayer or ending the season on a positive note.

Thought I covered this, development/press/blind faith.
That's the reason he's getting time, I don't think people are saying well shit, Rosario's back is hurt good thing I knew Barnidge was better than him all along
Yeah, even if you thought it was right that Jenkins left not adequately replacing him is going to cut into the benefits.

I think that most of the 40% are basing it as much on the fact that Rosario hasn't shown he is even an average TE yet as what they think of Barnidge. Rosario dropped a handful of very catchable balls last year, and made a TON of mistakes and penalties...many times at critical junctures. So I don't think Rosario has earned the trust of most fans yet...other than the blind trust that some fans feel about a player they like, or the ones that became enamored by a couple of plays.

And while Barnidge hasn't proven anything either, he also hasn't had the problems Rosario did. I also think a lot of people realize that Barnidge was an excellent receiver in college, and believe/hope he can carry that over into the NFL. They are also somewhat basing their opinions on Barnidge’s solid play in pre-season (really the only time we had a chance to evaluate him as an NFL TE).

Additionally, I think last year was Rosario’s opportunity to step up and show what he has, but with the exception of one game, he faltered. Too many missed blocking assignments, too many dropped passes, too many penalties, too many poor routes. I don’t think anyone doubts he has the potential to improve in each of those areas, but it’s not something you want to bet on when you have another shiny option available…particularly one that has not been tarnished by mistakes.

    yes, this. This right here.
But then, I haven't heard glowing things about him in shorts. I don't remember him fucking things up third string or in preseason. It seems very unmemorable, not good, not bad, just present.

Again that's the thing whipping me. I haven't even seen the kid get Jason Carter press.

I've seen it. Like I said, "well, we've got King and Barnidge, and we only keep three. I have a hunch who'll go between Brock and Rosario, they really like this Brock kid."
