I've been working out for a few weeks with some lightweight dumbbells & ankle weights, & doing some more intensive ab exercises. All has been going well. I've been careful to focus on form & move slowly. It's become a habit now, & I can feel a difference.

But now there's pain & this huge knot in my lower back on the right side. I noticed pain there shortly before I finished working out today--right before I moved into my cool-down stretching. I didn't have an "oh shit" moment when I felt something happen. I just became aware of it while moving, & not working my back at the time.

It's been hurting steadily since then, but it's at a tolerable level. I don't feel any need to limit my physical activity. I have a good "thumper" type massager I can use to help loosen the knot.

It's a bitch of a knot, & pretty large, so I expect it will take at least several days of stretching & massage to work it loose. Is it likely to make things worse if I continue my workouts as usual until this loosens up? I don't want to limit my exercise if it's not necessary; but I also don't want to make this worse & prolong the problem.

Shit. I should have remembered. If you injure it today, it will hurt 3 or 4 times as much tomorrow. So now the question is: how much of what do I need to force myself to do to loosen it up & help it heal?

I can't offer any advice except "Go to a physical therapist."

I know that I pulled a muscle in my arm from dumbbells and it took MONTHS to heal.

You should go back to walking the mall in the mornings.

Since you didn't have that "oh shit" moment chances are you didn't do any traumatic damage to a muscle or a ligament. Try wet heat, your massage thing, and Percogesics.

We don't have a mall :crybaby:

I haven't had any drugs, but the heat & massage have helped loosen it up & get it back to tolerable. Thank you.

Immediately to the right of it but not on it. About the size of a golf ball.

    Really!

Actually I don't mind not having a mall. But we also don't have a grocery store, a convenience store, or a gas station. Better make sure you have a gallon or 2 in the tank before you go home.

We can get chips & "pop" at the gun store though. I can walk that far, but it's not far enough to offset the calories. :soda:

lower back injuries suck. I have had pain there for about two years. It has gotten better now that I am working out again though.
